OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY INCORPORATED
CHARTERED â–ª THURSDAY, JULY 16, 2020
The once sleepy bedroom-town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina in recent times has shed that lowly designation and is the fourth largest city in the State of South Carolina. It has seen exponential growth in its population and expansion of its borders continue to stretch beyond its most northern boundary. This time of growth and expansion was seen by some brothers who grew up and continue to reside there, as a moment to take full advantage of an opportunity to give back their communities - that helped nurture and raise them. The idea that a newly charted historically black Greek-letter fraternity could potentially put down roots in the East Cooper Area was nothing less that intoxicating, invigorating, and motivating. The Mayor of Mount Pleasant Will Haynie and the Mount Pleasant Police Department summitted letters endorsing the establishment of the new chapter.
Being guided by the belief that Omega Men, men of similar ideas of fellowship should bind themselves together in order enhance their communities by extending the reach and influence of Omega Psi Phi, Brother Anthony “Tony” Freeman along with Brother Marion J. Turner set the wheels in motion to charter the first African-American Greek-letter Fraternity in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Thus, Epsilon Nu Nu (East Cooper Ques) Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on Thursday, July 16, 2020 during a session of the 82nd Grand Virtual Conclave. The Conclave was originally slated to be held in Tampa Bay, Florida but due to the COVID19/Corona Virus pandemic, the first ever Virtual Conclave was held. A unanimous vote by the body was cast at 11:52 p.m. making Epsilon Nu Nu the nine hundred and eightieth (#980) chapter to be chartered under the auspices of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the (00) chapter to be chartered in
The Mighty Sixth District (North Carolina & South Carolina).
In the initial efforts to establish Epsilon Nu Nu, there were days and nights of toil. The idea was meet many obstacles and criticisms, and after eight-years (8) of being told why another chapter was not necessary and disappointing denials, perseverance prevailed. Epsilon Nu Nu Chapter countered adversity with tenacity, rose above the petty jealousies of life and was graciously granted the opportunity to take extend the reach and influence of Omega in society and made its mark in history.
